Nigerian activist and social media commentator VeryDarkMan has sharply criticised prominent figures and institutions he says failed Ruth Otabor, sister of former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna, who tragically died on Sunday following a road accident involving a Dangote truck.
The Otabor family, through Eko Solicitors & Advocates, confirmed Ruth’s passing. She had been receiving medical treatment for serious injuries sustained in the crash near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
Reacting to the tragedy, VeryDarkMan singled out President Bola Tinubu, the Dangote Group, and influential Nigerians on social media, accusing them of inaction while Ruth required urgent medical intervention.
In an Instagram video posted Sunday, he said: “Phyna’s sister has finally kpai, a lot of people are lending their voices to the RIP but when we needed those voices to pressure Dangote to do the right thing, 19 days was what she spent at the hospital but many refused to post because it won’t give them engagement. You bunch are hypocrites, may God forgive your souls. Nigeria has failed us. President Bola Tinubu, you have failed us all. And to Dangote Group, are you happy now? You had the time to take that girl abroad to treat her.”
His remarks came after the Dangote Group issued condolences, stating that they and their insurance partners had covered all medical and financial costs since the accident. The company added that plans were in place to transfer Ruth to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance, but she sadly passed before it could happen.
