The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The announcement was made on Monday, September 29, 2025, by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.
In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended congratulations to all Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, on this historic milestone.
He emphasised the significance of upholding the patriotic spirit, unity, and resilience that have sustained the country since gaining independence in 1960.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to remain committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which focuses on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity. “We call on all Nigerians to continue to embrace unity and work together to ensure that the nation grows stronger in peace, progress, and development,” he stated.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence that with the cooperation of all Nigerians, the country would continue to experience growth and development across all sectors.
