Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Uriel Oputa, has opened up about the harsh realities of dating in Nigeria, especially for women in their 30s and 40s. In a candid interview on Outside The Box, Uriel expressed frustration over the scarcity of decent Nigerian men and the growing culture of unrealistic relationship expectations.

The reality TV star didn’t mince words as she described dating Nigerian men as a complex and emotionally draining experience. She revealed how her desperation to get married almost ruined her life after encountering a man who treated her poorly.

“It is hard to date a Nigerian man. I don’t understand why they’re so complicated,” Uriel said. “I met someone when I was desperate to get married, and that experience almost destroyed me. He showed me pepper.”

Speaking further on the challenges faced by single women in Nigeria, Uriel called out the rampant age shaming that often targets women over 30. According to her, societal pressure makes women feel devalued once they reach a certain age.

“Age shaming is such a real thing in Nigeria, and I have been so vocal about it. Because a lot of women in their 30s and their 40s feel like they’re expired milk,” she lamented.

Uriel emphasized that many of these women are still beautiful, vibrant, and have much to offer, but the stigma surrounding age creates an unfair disadvantage in the dating scene.

The TV personality also touched on the unrealistic mindset that there is always someone “better” out there. She criticized this belief, saying it’s one of the reasons why meaningful relationships are becoming increasingly rare in Nigeria.

“It boils down to the culture of always finding something better, which is a lie, as there is nothing better outside,” she stated.

Uriel Oputa’s honest take sheds light on the complexities of dating Nigerian men, the impact of societal expectations on women, and the urgent need to redefine value in relationships beyond age or marital status. Her voice joins a growing number of Nigerian women calling for more empathy, respect, and authenticity in love and relationships.
