In a bid to enhance public trust and ensure better conduct, the Nigeria Police Force has taken some significant steps to reposition the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) which has now undergone a series of reforms, resulting in the introduction of new rules of engagement.
The reforms aims to address the misconduct and misuse of power that had previously plagued the unit, with a strong emphasis on protecting the rights of Nigerian citizens.
The new rules of engagement are as follows:
Civil Matters: No SARS personnel is allowed to interface in any civil matter.
Cyber Crime: They are not allowed to interfere in cyber crime (yahoo yahoo).
Stop and Search: No SARS personnel is allowed to conduct a stop and search exercise unless there is a distress call from victims or members of the public.

Social/Relationship Cases: They are not allowed to interfere in any social/relationship cases (marital matters, boyfriend/girlfriend relationships).
Armed Robbery and Kidnapping: SARS personnel are strictly for armed robbery and kidnapping cases only!
